The trick in a nutshell
Using a few dice, a piece of paper and a pen, you’ll show that you can predict the result of an addition problem faster than a calculator!
Preparing the trick
Get a piece of paper, a pen and a mobile phone or calculator ready.
The performance
- Ask a spectator to roll the dice and arrange them in a single row, side by side. Use your magic method and write down a five-digit number on the piece of paper: add the digit 3 to the start of the number in the third row and subtract 3 from the last digit. Fold the paper and set it aside. Note – if the last digit in the third row is 2, subtract 3 from the number formed by the last two dice (in the example 3 682, subtract 3 from 82 = 79).
- Ask the spectator to write down any four-digit number. Then, for each digit of that number, apply a simple rule: subtract each of the spectator’s digits from 9 – separately, one by one. In this way, we obtain a new four-digit number – this is our opponent’s number or the mystery number.
- Example – The spectator’s number: 2 368
- Our number: 7 631
- Note! Do not write the numbers directly below the numbers written by the spectator, to avoid revealing patterns.
- The numbers written down by you and the spectator, plus the four sets of numbers on the dice, make up six sets of numbers. The spectator adds all six numbers together, and the result turns out to be the same as the one written down earlier!
Tips
Remember that the sum is calculated for the four rows of numbers, not the columns. Write the numbers down fairly quickly. Although the calculations aren’t difficult once you understand the mechanism, be careful not to make mistakes. If you don’t have a pen and paper, you can give the result straight away after the spectator has rolled the dice. Then ask the audience member to do the calculations.

Make the ruler disappear in your hand!
Preparing the trick
Take a special retractable ruler. Hold it so that the convex side (without patterns) faces you, and the concave side (with patterns) faces the audience.
Performance
- Place the fingers of your left hand on the ruler (slightly together).
- Then press down firmly on the ruler with your thumb just below its centre and shake your hand gently up and down. The ruler magically disappears!
- As you press down on the ruler with your thumb, it begins to curl around it.
- From the spectator’s perspective, the ruler appears to have truly vanished.

Arrange the cardboard boxes in such a way as to create a fascinating optical illusion regarding their length.
How to perform
- Place both pieces of cardboard in front of you, as shown in the video, and measure their length with your hands. Show the audience that they are both the same length.
- Take the lighter-coloured piece of cardboard in your hands and move your fingers gently, as if you were trying to stretch it – create the impression that its length is changing in a magical way.
- Place the light-coloured piece of cardboard just above the dark one so that the light-coloured piece is closer to the audience, and use your hands to compare their lengths. The light-coloured piece appears longer – a sign that the magic has worked!

The trick in a nutshell
Your fingers are tightly wrapped in tape… yet they slip through it with ease, as if it were made of air!
Preparing the trick
Unroll the tape to about 10 cm. With your right hand, grasp the end, fold it over and stick it to the adhesive side. Once the tape is folded, that section loses its stickiness, allowing you to easily slide your thumb through.
Performance
- Place the end of the tape against the tip of your left thumb, holding it between your index finger and thumb. Wrap the tape tightly around your thumb and index finger at least twice, using a twisting motion as shown in the illustration. Then tear off the tape.
- Say to the audience: ‘The tape holds my thumb so tightly that it’s impossible to remove,’ and show the audience your thumb wrapped in tape.
- During the demonstration, hold your hand so that the audience cannot see your thumb – only your fingers together, as shown in the illustration.
- With your right hand, grasp the tape, pretending to pull it through your fingers. In reality, discreetly slide your thumb out of the tape. Slide the tape back onto your index finger as if nothing had happened. The tape appears to pass through your fingers.
- Note: When removing your thumb from the ribbon wrapped around it, you must conceal this movement with your other fingers. At the same time, take care not to move the rest of your hand.
- With your left hand, make an OK gesture, and with your right hand, move the tape left and right, showing that it has passed through your tightly wrapped fingers.

The trick in a nutshell
Using your magical abilities, you’ll make a long stick placed in a box split into three parts in the blink of an eye. After a moment, perform another magical move and join the sticks back together, leaving your audience truly amazed.
Performance
- Show the audience a long stick and an empty box to convince them that everything is in order.
- Place the stick into the box, holding it upright – with the opening facing upwards.
- Holding the bottom of the box with your left hand, slide its middle section to the side with your right hand – the stick will ‘break apart’ into three shorter pieces.
- Pull out the three short sticks and show them to the audience – everyone will see that the long stick has disappeared.
- Put the three sticks back into the box.
- With your right hand, slide the central section so that the box returns to its original position.
- Take one long stick out of the box again and show it to the audience.

The trick in a nutshell
Place a pencil (or another small object that fits inside) into the secret pencil case and make it disappear.
How to perform the trick
- Place a pencil or other small object into the pencil case and close it in full view of the audience.
- Holding the pencil case in your left hand, gently press down on the bottom with your fingertips (as shown in the video). When you open the drawer with your right hand, the object will disappear. In reality, it is still inside, hidden thanks to a clever mechanism.
- Next, close the drawer without pressing the bottom. Open it again – the object will reappear, as if by magic!
