Preparing the trick
Take a special retractable ruler. Hold it so that the convex side (without patterns) faces you, and the concave side (with patterns) faces the audience.
Performance
- Place the fingers of your left hand on the ruler (slightly together).
- Then press down firmly on the ruler with your thumb just below its centre and shake your hand gently up and down. The ruler magically disappears!
- As you press down on the ruler with your thumb, it begins to curl around it.
- From the spectator’s perspective, the ruler appears to have truly vanished.
