Preparing the trick
To perform the trick, you will need the deck of cards included in the set. Before starting the performance, it is worth familiarising yourself thoroughly with the mechanism of the card tricks (‘Trapeze’), described in the enclosed printed instructions. Before each trick, make sure that all the cards in the deck are facing the same way.
Performance
- Fan out the cards and present them to the spectator, showing that all the cards are different. Ask the spectator to choose one card and memorise it. Meanwhile, turn the deck over in your hands — this will ensure that the card chosen by the spectator, once it has been put back, will have slightly raised edges, making it easy to find. Ask the spectator to put their card back into the deck. Then shuffle the cards.
- Next, ask the spectator to choose a number between 1 and 5. Say to the spectator: “After drawing that many cards, the next card will be yours.” Take the deck behind your back. Secretly remove the card chosen by the spectator and place it at the bottom of the deck. Keeping the deck behind your back, draw one card at a time from the top as many times as the number indicated by the spectator.
- After drawing the correct number of cards, reach for the card at the bottom of the deck (the spectator’s card) and present it as the next one in the sequence.
