The trick in a nutshell

With magic cards, you can enchant your audience with extraordinary tricks! Imagine being able to pull the card they’ve chosen straight from the middle of the deck, detect a subtle difference in the weight of the ink on the paper, or match cards flawlessly without looking at their colour. This unique display is sure to delight every spectator.

Preparing the trick

Before each trick, make sure that all the cards in the deck are facing the same way.

Performance

  1. Arrange the cards as described in the ‘Preparing the trick’ section. Hand the deck to a spectator to shuffle, then take it back.
  2. As you take the cards, say: ‘More ink is used to print face cards, which is why they are slightly heavier than number cards. Don’t believe me? Let’s find out together!
  3. Holding the cards in your left hand face down, pick up the top card with your right hand without turning it over. Pretend to assess its weight, whilst secretly reading the code on the back of the card.
  4. If it is a face card, say: “It’s heavy, so it must be a face card.” Then place it on the left-hand side of the table. If it is a number card, say: “This one is light, so it must be a number card.” Place it on the right-hand side of the table.
  5. Repeat these steps until the entire deck has been divided into two piles, then say: “It seems you still don’t believe me. See for yourselves!”
  6. Turn both piles of cards over. Everyone will see that the left pile contains only face cards, and the right pile contains only number cards. The magic works!
