Preparing the trick
Before you begin the performance, take four cards of each suit (spades, diamonds, clubs, hearts) from the deck — the Jack, Queen, King and Ace. Lay them out on the table in separate piles, grouped by suit. Remember that for the trick to work, the cards in each pile must be arranged in exactly the same order.
The performance
- Lay out the cards you have prepared on the table, showing them to the audience.
- Then take each pile and stack them on top of one another, without changing the order of the cards, thus creating one large pile.
- Place it face down on the table and ask the spectator to shuffle the cards in any way they like. They may do this as many times as they wish — on one condition: they must not create three piles at once, but only a maximum of two, which they will then shuffle.
- When the spectator has finished shuffling, take the cards and lay them back out into four piles, one by one — exactly as shown in the instructional material.
- Once all the cards have been dealt, pick up each pile and, with a smile, reveal the surprise: despite being shuffled and rearranged multiple times, the cards have magically arranged themselves into four perfect groups — each with the same value and in the same order of symbols.
