The trick in a nutshell
Don’t peek! Hold the box with the dice up to your ear and shake it! After a moment’s concentration, you’ll guess the colour of the dice.
How to perform
- Turn your back to the audience and ask one of the spectators to choose one of the six colours on the dice. The spectator places the dice in the box so that the chosen colour is facing upwards, then closes the box.
- Turn back to face the audience and take the box from the spectator.
- You perform the trick behind your back.
- Behind your back, out of sight, slide the lid of the box to the side so that a hole is visible through which you can see the colour of the dice.
- Then, holding the box in front of you, lid facing upwards, take a quick peek at the cube.
- Hold the box to your ear and shake it theatrically, pretending to try to ‘hear’ the colour. After a moment’s concentration, announce dramatically to the audience: ‘You have chosen the colour…!’

With a quick movement, open the box and show the audience the colour of the cube, confirming that you were right.
