The trick in a nutshell

Using a few dice, a piece of paper and a pen, you’ll show that you can predict the result of an addition problem faster than a calculator!

 

Preparing the trick

Get a piece of paper, a pen and a mobile phone or calculator ready.

 

The performance

  1. Ask a spectator to place four dice in a row on the table, side by side, in any order. Use the reverse algorithm to calculate the sum of the four rows of numbers visible to the spectator, and write the result on a piece of paper.
  2. Let the spectator calculate the sum of the four rows using a mobile phone or calculator, then compare their result with the one you wrote down earlier. It should be the same. Amaze the spectator by showing that you can calculate the result faster than a calculator!
